I have great affection for the Southern United States, southern people, and southern culture. My time living in Ormond Beach, Florida in 1974 produced the Grapefruit Truck painting and Miller’s Dog House, Daytona Beach. Painted in the 1970’s, these two early works were pivotal in establishing my style.
Blues, country music, and jazz have always been an important part of my life. I played harmonica and sang in blues and rock bands for many years, so it was only natural that a road trip pilgrimage through Mississippi via Highway 61 from Memphis to New Orleans would inspire me to paint the other eight pieces in this group, which I refer to as my Delta Series.
